Ancient Egyptian Contributions
Innovations
Cyprus papyrus (ancient Egyptian paper)
Ancient Egyptians early as 3000 BC, they have invented the way of making paper from the
papyrus plant called Cyprus papyrus found along the banks of river
Nile. Other innovations that were made by ancient Egyptians was that they mixed soot with
vegetable gum and beeswax together to make black ink. They also invented wigs, a
written language, high heels, surgical instruments, and Ox-drawn Plows.( Bose, Debopriya)

The Sun Calendar
The Sun Calendar
“The Ancient Egyptian calendar was invented over 5000 years ago.” (Erin
Potter)The calendar is marked by the 12 months for each of the following
phases of the Moon. The Ancient Egyptians were the first and most certain have
the correct amount of days, months, and years set right for the solar calendar.
The solar calendar was located in the Earths’ position orbiting around the Sun. “This
is calendar has the twelve months and thirty days plus and extra five days
at the end of each year like the same calendar like we have today only but with
technology.” The sun calendar was not precisely correct at the time it was
invented during ancient times but it was a close and most certain way of
tracking the days. Later in 238 BC, it was rewritten by “Ptolemy Euergetes” the third. He had added to the calendar one day to 365 days for every four years for the calendar as a way to be precisely correct. The Ancient Egyptians has invented a way to keep track of the time by inventing some what caled a clock that we have today but a way different type of clock. The Ancient Egyptians have made the sun clock which it keeps track of the moving shadow position of where the sun hits to divide between the mornings and
afternoons, it was from the longest part of the day towards the shortest part by
the afternoon.

The Water Night Clock
Water Clock is to keep track of time at night
The water clock was invented about the time of 1417 BC. This clock was to help them
be able to keep track of time during the night reign of Amenhotep the
third. This water clock looked like a stone vessel with slanting walls and a
small hole at the bottom. This looks a lot like an inverted cone but this stone
vessel had water is dripping at a constant rate. This constant rate was sort of
like how the kept track of their seconds per minute.
The stone vessel was was divided into 12 columns which had different equally marked
spaces between them inside. The change of the level of the water along with the
makings on the inner walls of the vessel, as the water was dripping out of
the vessel, it would show the time of each hour.

Irrigation System
Shadufs
One of the Ancient Egyptian irrigation systems are called Shadufs. It is a lever
used by tying long wooden pole to a mount to enable the pole to pivot up and
down. It is kind of like a catapult but it is not a weapon of any
sort. Then a bucket was tied onto the end towards the Nile. On the other end of
it would be either a net of rocks or a bag of sand would be tied .
This process would be used as a counterbalance to make the bucket of water seem
light and easier to raise the bucket out of the rushing water. This irrigation
method is still used today along the banks of the Nile and also along other
rivers across all over the world also.
Buildings and Roads
Ancient Egyptian Transportation (Boats)
During the Ancient Egyptian times, didn’t build roads to travel around their
empire. Their transportation was in the middle of the empire called the Nile River. The
majority of the major cities in the Ancient Egyptian time were located along the
banks of the Nile River. The Egyptians used the Nile River for transportation
around the area and for shipping goods to others around. The Egyptians
were more advanced at building boats a navigating on the river. The ancient Egyptian buildings were most commonly known is the pyramids

Written Scripts
Ancient Egyptian Written Scripts
The ancient Egyptians have invented written scripts so that they could record this
communicate information. This was important because the information can be told
from generation to generation. The most famous scripts out of all of them that
have been written and invented is hieroglyphic. Of the three thousand years of
ancient Egyptian civilizations, there is at least three other types of scripts
recordings that were used for different purposes. The uses of these scripts,
scribes, they were able to keep the beliefs like history and ideas of the ancient Egypt in the temple. The scripts were place in the tomb walls in the temple and they were on papyrus scrolls. This language was developed because the ancient Egyptians were able to communicate
with one another by using the language most commonly know for called hieroglyphic. Hieroglyphic is a type of writing that uses pictures for symbols or symbols for sounds. They record this information in their way of communicating. The hieroglyphic language is also pictographic form. This language hieroglyphic was used by other civilization as well. One of them is called Mayan script.

Hieroglyphic
Ancient Egyptian Alphabet in Hieroglyphic
This language has survived for over thousands of years. This form of ancient Egyptian
writing can be read today of this time period. It was know that it could not be
figured out how to be read until “Champollion and Young made their extraordinary
discovery in 1822.” ( Lindsay Baldwin) They found the way to reveal the history,
culture, customs, and their way of how the ancient Egyptians lived their past
daily lives. This is also important information because it gives you the knowledge of knowing of their culture, lifestyle, records of writing, and knowing of how they communicated in ancient Egypt.

Major Contributions
Ancient Egyptians farming crops
The major contributions of this ancient Egyptian civilization to the world at their
time was that they had a system where they a water source to where they could
retrieve water for the farmers so that they would be able to water crops on
lands that were far away from any water source. The roads and markets was the
process of allowing them for a wider give out to others of these foods. This
development allowed them a much higher population to gather into one area. This
is the reason why more people could live in a smaller area. This allowed more skills for people to become merchants, priests, artist, politicians, craftsmen, architects and technicians to exist. The reason is that they did not have to spend their time on growing their own food or hunting for it. They could just as easily just buy from a store or trade it.
